What is Yellow Day? Yellow Day is a fundraising event designed to get schools involved in a local charity. It can take place on any day in the year so it can fit in with the school's own fundraising timetable. During the day the school can organise one or more event to raise awareness of the charity and support its aims. |
What can you do? During Yellow Day you may decide to focus on the 'Yellow Day' for the whole day or you might prefer to hold just one event. You could hold a cake sale with a yellow theme, or you might hold a sponsored joke telling session, you may even invite everyone to wear something yellow or have a yellow accessory to show support. Below are some documents with ideas for assemblies which you may feel you would like to use to promote your theme for the day.
Other ideas include: Holding a treasure hunt, a competition to see who can be the most creative with one of your products, a coin spiral (a spiral of coins following a spiral chalked on the ground, the money collected is donated to Martha Care), a sponsored duck race (yellow of course) with bets taken on who will win, a brooch sale, an auction of skills or promises, a yellow fancy dress event.
For details of how to generate publicity, get leaflets to publicise your event, ideas etc please call 07761 014019 and talk to Maggie who will be happy to help |
Why have Yellow Day? Martha Care was set up by Martha's mum to provide support and advice for the families of very sick or seriously injured children attending Frenchay Hospital. The people involved in the charity decided that one way to achieve the aims of Martha Care was to raise awareness of the charity. Martha would entertain the people she met with one or two of her jokes and hope that she would learn a new joke in return. She also loved the colour yellow. So after many discussions it was decided that Yellow Day might be a good way of promoting the work of the charity. It was decided that this day could have a yellow theme, and it might include jokes as well. |
